Evolution of the Motobec-one

Motobecane Uno, a 4130 cromoly single speed in "KiloGreen" equipped with a too-hard gearing (46-16) and the world's heaviest wheelset (front wheel and rear wheel at x/2285 grams2 respectively with the stock tires, tubes, rotors, cog). Clearance for 42c or 29x1.7-2.1" tires allegedly.
As it arrived (plus spare Race Face Chester pedals in teal)

There aren't a whole lot of low cost disc brake compatible single speed frames out there... It should be a fun low maintenance rail-trail roller slash commute bike. Should find something to use those fork mounting points for!

Upgrades/part swaps completed so far:

  • Pedals from garbage nylon ones to Race Face Chesters (weight savings or penalty?)
  • Freewheel to a 20 tooth one (ACS BMX ACS Paws 4.1 BMX Freewheel - 68 g heavier than stock 16 tooth). It was quite hard to remove, but I was able to use this great lever trick to do so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVCOjZ4wCgA. The

Upgrades/part swaps for the future:

  • Wheel reflectors to no wheel reflectors (just waiting until I weigh the wheels)
  • Pedals to others that look a little better with the green (gold?)
  • Shiny vanity parts from Wolf Tooth or other (like anodized bling kit [spacers, top cap, water bottle bolts], seatpost clamp, chainring and mounting bolts
  • Chainring to something a little smaller (130 bcd, 40T)
  • Seatpost to a lighter spare one hanging around
  • Saddle?
  • Tires to something lighter and less tubey
  • Super long term would be fun to re-space the rear dropouts, but I'd be worried about keeping everything lined up properly.
  • Tensioners to plop into the track ends - like these Origin 8 ones?
  • Apparently crankset is very heavy? worth a measure
