As rescued from the street, apologies for the non drive side photo |
This is a Raleigh Reliant from 1980 (according to the first digit after the M in the serial number - 0 for 1980 and so on). Quite heavy carbon steel frame, but it looks great, the price was right, and it came with a rack and light!
The original saddle is cracked and uncomfortable, the steel rims are heavy, and it doesn't brake well. I'm also not a big fan of the shifter positioning...
Will be a great bike to clean up and then leave at the office or set up as the commuter.
With the rack removed and the bonus hose clamps for attaching a water bottle cage, it weighs in at X lbs.
Upgrades/part swaps completed so far:
Upgrades/part swaps for the future:
- Drivetrain to something modern - maybe Microshift Advent or other 1x
- Fenders
- Alloy wheels to replace the steel rims (could necessitate cold setting the frame for wider spacing and longer brake calipers?)
- Pedals
- Saddle
